Affiliate Marketing is a performance-based marketing channel in which merchants pay out a commission to publishers who actively promote them. They are often called affiliates or advertisers. Because you only  compensate affiliates when conversion is made, the risk and upfront investment is typically lower in comparison with other paid channels.
